Whats a good beginner coral reef

Soft corals and lps are easier than sps. Mushrooms are easy but are more expensive around where I'm at. Acans have been easy for me too. Leathers, Kenya tree, Xenia, and of you want to go into sps, montipora.
 
Honestly stay away from weed corals like kenya trees, xenia, green star polyps, blue cloves and waving hand. I gave the same advice as needmorecowbell earlier also included a site to help you decide which ones that would work better for your tank. Corals is something you have to research to find out what you like and find out how they might do in your system.
 
I agree with joy to a certain extent. I personally think Xenia are among the most beautiful corals we have in the hobby if managed properly. If you don't want to frag regularly, don't get it, but that's what I like to do. I have heard Kenya can be a pest though.
