White spots

My betta and neons are getting tiny white spots on them and they are in different tanks. Is this normal? What could it mean?
 
Figure out which way you want to treat. Hukit wrote a nice article of how to treat with salt and heat somewhere on here. Otherwise meds are you next choice
 
Read up on ich first. It helps so much to know the enemy you are trying to fight. Let me find the link for you. Best article I've seen on the topic. Not the only good one, but the best I've seen so far.

Then decide if you want to go with heat alone or use salt to help speed up the ich deaths. Bettas are, fortunately, tolerant of water with less oxygen, and raising temperatures lowers oxygen.

But you may want to get an air stone for each tank. It helps circulate the water and that assists gas exchange, which helps improve oxygen content. It does not add air directly, but it will help while the temperatures are high.
