Why does Petco sell bamboo as an underwater plant?

"Lucky bamboo" is not supposed to have its roots completely covered to survive yet I saw an entire tank selling it where they had it underwater.

What is up with that?
 
Why does any lfs sell non aquatic plants as such? Couple of reasons......
They don't know any better.
The consumer doesn't know any better.

Either way if one buys these types of plants (and there are many) the store makes money and you get frustrated. Sometimes buy more thinking it was your fault the plant died. Company makes money...
 
It's not just the bamboo, they also sell Aqua Fern and a couple others that are actually packaged by an aquarium plant company. I had a few of these rot in my tanks before I knew better. Very lame in my opinion...they must have someone on staff that knows its a scam.
