I'm pulling my hair out here! I have no idea what to out in this tank :( I'm still bummed that I can't do the gouramis. I'm just having a hard time finding something :/

Can you do any gourami?? You could try honey gourami. A trio of them would work well 1m 2 f. They reach about two inches the Females 1.5 . Hopefully it's attached a picture! :D you MIGHT he able to try german blue rams. German blue rams Wikipedia

Well yea but like I said, my pet stores have all the gouramis labeled as males. I was really hoping to be able to have like 4 of something. And why do you say might be able to?

When you mentioned the tetra - do you know what level of the tank those varieties prefer?
I love my tetra, they look fantastic and school all the time.
You could also look for high fin platy fish. (My glass is scratched). They are larger than standard platies.

The tetras are both mid level swimmers but on some websites it said the congos could be top level too

Ok. In that case, I had a positive experience with keeping tetra with a Bolivian ram or small pleco.
The ram is really beautiful. Both are bottom dwellers.

The platy is a middle level fish.

So I'm thinking, what if I did just one gourami. Then how many proper schools of smaller tetras could I do? Could I have 6 Congo and 6 or 8 red phantom? Then would I have any room for say 5 marbled hatchetfish and some snails? Or would I be better off without the hatchets and maybe one small pleco

What's the differences between bolivian rams and German blue rams?

Haha I've had them before they're cool

So what do you think about my plan?

Because I don't want rummynose lol.
This is the fist tank that I actually get to stock so I want to really like it.

ok I apologize for the suggestion...just change out the tetras with the ones you like but keep the rest of the equation

Lol don't apologize I was just saying. It's all good. So anyways thanks :)

Ok lol. I have a feeling my dad might take a hand in this and then ill end up with all 3 schools lol X.x that's why my big tank is overstocked.

It may be worthwhile to see if there are any 2-2.5" tetra that you like - versus the congos - due to activity and your tank being 30" wide. Congos are recommended at 40" or more.
Diamond tetra are a personal favorite. ;)

The red phantom tetras are smaller.
