Well then id get a larger school of a single small species. They will get along and behave more natural. Most including myself think it looks better like that. If you look at bigger tanks. Even when you see that big group of neons moving its pretty awesome.
 
Getting warmer. Majority of smaller fish are less stressed and act naturally in larger groups.

I have a 10g. A 10g is small. My 10 probably has 7.5 g water. Not alot space.
Also you got hard vs soft water there. Most tetras are soft. Guppies are hard.
 
Ok then I really like platies so maybe 4 or 5 platies with shrimp.
 
Cool can I have like 8 that is what most people do I did some reaserch the are usually less then a inch
 
Get 3 to 5. Mix of males and females. You'll have more than 8 before you know it.
 
They can get an little bigger than inch. They are interbreed so much. If you have alot of plants alot of filter id do 7 max.
