What book is the best for setting up planted tanks? Also it would be great if the same book identified and described alot of commonly available plants. It seems most of the books at my local library are old and out of date and suggest things like underground heaters. They also aren't up to date when it comes to discussing lighting and what not. Any good recommendations?

"The Optimum Aquarium" (Horst and Kipper)
"Planted Aquariums" (Kassleman) Many volums but my fav.

Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants by Peter Hiscock is another good one.

Not as scientific as Kassleman, but very good for new comers and experienced keepers. Its not just an encyclopedia of plants, but also a setup, equipment and general info book.

I have another book by Peter Hiscock :

"Today's Essential Guide to Growing Aquarium Plants"

It's been a great primer.

Only 2, but about $70 and $30 respectively (ouch).

Pablo Tepoot's "Aquarium Plants: The Practical Guide" is also considered one of the 'bibles' of planted tanks, but also not cheap at around $60 or so.
