Hi everyone!
I try to update my individual threads but I don't always do a good job so I figured I will start one to consolidate what's going on with my fish and tanks for those of you who are interested.

Shouldn't this be counted as a public zoo? Lol lots of tanks! Lucky duck! How do you even maintain all of those??

It's not really too bad. I do around 13 WC weekly and my boyfriend made this custom plumbed water changey presto thing. Nerites keep the need for scrubbing down and I just let my plants go crazy. I spend way more time staring at them than maintaining them. Once you have a system it's a piece of cake, I enjoy it all.

Wow, 13 compared to 2 a week is a lot more lol. I also just let my tanks grow out and when it's bothering my eyes or I see plants competing too much for space I'll trim. Can we get some pics? I would love to see all the tanks

I have a black variety of cory also. When I purchased mine they were labeled as corydoras venezuelanus. I looked them up and from what I read they are collected in Venezuela but not enough research has been done to have an exact name for them. Then I went to someone's house and he had black corys and said I think that they were black aeneus. Mine are juvies but they seem longer than the aeneus. Are there various types of black corys?

Bren I get mixed info too. From what I understand "Venezuelans" is just a made up trade name. The black coloration is just a trait bred morph out of Germany in the 1990s (from aenus) so technically they are still part of the aenus "grouping".
I have seen reports of a collection site in Venezuela but I have not definitively confirmed that.
I assume at some point it will be distinctly classified if a collection point is defined but I agree, they are much slimmer bodied than your typical aenus. I don't know if that's a bred trait or what but I know there is a lot of variation within the aenus species depending on collection point.
I'm not sure where black schwartzi came from...too much conflicting info.
All I know is that they're neat little buggers

Hi Bren,
I get stuff all over the place...
The Julies, calvus, and eretmodus came from sicichlids which was a recommendation from a local Facebook group (and my only online purchase)
Local auctions: shelldwellers, black cories, both rasbora species, metae cories, red phantom tetras, farlowella, aspidoras, shrimp
Silver dollars came from a guy who moved down south and couldn't take them
Kerri and napo tetras came from a local club member
Everything else I've bought at local LFS-I hit up Ned's in Millis MA, Emmons Tropical Fish in Simsbury CT, blakes Aqua Den in Meriden CT, some other oddballs that have since closed but my most frequented is Waterbury Aquarium in Waterbury CT. My local Petco also has an awesome fish specialist who orders things for me from their distributors and sets it aside so they never go into their tanks, they can get their hands on some cool stuff from time to time.
Most of the plants came from awesome AA members.

Wow. My local petco doesn't special order. I get most of my fish at swaps or online. My local lfs just don't like to special order much even if I try to prepay.

Wow that's such a shame, every one I've been to around here will. I leave them lists haha. If they're ordering new stock already I don't see why it would be a pain to add one one or two more things...unless they have a hard time moving fish, who knows.

I believe there are 3 possibly 4, venezualanus, aenus, and 1 or 2 undescribed from the Andes in Bolivia or Argentina. Venezualanus is quite dark as it is, so black or charcoal is likely natural for them, the aenus would have to be bred for the traits and the ones from the Andes may be a single species, but they are much darker than venezualanus and almost completely black.

I've never heard of black schwartzi, but that would have to be bred from melanistic fish since they are naturally colored and patterned like julliis and such.

Whatever it is that I have is jet black with a silver belly. They are longer bodies than the aeneus.
