K range

Its open to opinion, but 6500K is what I want when I can afford it.

I usually hear 5000 to 10000 is best.
 
6500-6700k are the two most common plant bulbs. 9325k GE bulbs are popular, but a bit pink...so you might wanna mix a 9325 with a 6500 to balance it out.
10,000k is ok too, might seem a little blue.

as long as you stick between 5000-10000k, your spectrum will be fine. with plants, it's usually quantity of light, over quality. I've grown plants with 3000k 'ugly yellow' screw in power compacts.
 
As far as the PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) index goes, 6700K compact fluorescent fixtures seem to have the best rating of any standard lamps (short of metal halides) that I've seen. The study I read was a little dated so this info may not be totally accurate any more. I like the 10000K lamps myself, just personal preference. My plants don't seem to care one way or another though.
