Can I put a few assassin snails in with them?

Also what is my goal ph...I've been changing w ro water and my ph is now 6.4

It may be a fight to get them to accept some foods. From my experiences bitaeniata types are not very accepting of change when it comes to food. My bitaeniata still only take live foods and the spirulina brine and will not touch this awesome flake that brookster sent me. You may have to try starving them a little then offering the brine, especially if they are wild stock. Another option is feeding live foods exclusively. I keep cultures of daphnia, whiteworms, blackworms, brineshrimp and hatch baby brineshrimp. All of my foods are feed on a diet of spirulina and astaxanthin powders to provide balanced nutrition for the fish.

Daphnia http://www.discushatchery.com/raisingdaphnia.html

Whiteworms http://www.livefoodcultures.com/whiteworms.html

Blackworms http://www.tbas1.com/TBASpastarticles/BlackWorms.html, it seems they missed a hyphen between the 2,3 and 3,4 in the breeding section, keep that in mind when reading lol.

Brine shrimp and bbs, I no longer raise brine shrimp to maturity, it takes too much work so I just buy them and place them in put them in a 2.5 gallon with a water and marine salt mix (most packages have instructions for brine shrimp. For bbs you can get a hatchery, I just ordered the base that a 2 ltr bottle screws into and followed the directions for setup. If I happen to hatch too many for one days use (which happens easily) I feed them the algae powders until the bbs are all fed off.

I should add that I feed my whiteworms gerber multigrain cereal with the algae powders mixed in.

I also forgot to mention scuds, they may be the easiest to culture, you just need a small tub/tank a sponge filter, a little moss or hornwort and some quality flake or pellets.

My sand bed seems to have cultured it's own live food, some small white worms and other critters. I see the apistos take a mouth fill of sand l, blow it out their gills and nom something down.

Probably planaria, cyclops and other critters that came in on your plants and that's why I prefer live foods you get to see more natural behavior.

Success! They gulped up the spirulina and brine shrimp. Think they were pecking at the nls pellets this am too.

Do black worms come frozen? Not sure about the whole culture thing but I'm researching it..

I buy my black worms live but I don't know if thats typical. The fish go NUTS for them, I lets some get away and burrow and create a substrate culture and there is always usually a couple around for the fish to hunt after.
